Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood located in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" place. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. For those who haven't been aware of it frequently mistake it for a separate island facing west. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was short. Brugel was raised on Courtice located just outside Oshawa within Ontario. She aspired to be professional, however due to a rapid increase in her height, she outgrew all of her dancing partners. The article she wrote about her experience revealed published by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. As I got bigger than my male counterparts, I gave up. Many dancers make the transition to acting. As for Brugel, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her to go in this direction. The teacher suggested she try getting a part in the the school's annual show. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Her career spans 20 years and she's appeared in 60 different productions that have screened on large screens and on smaller ones. Her most notable role was the one of Rita (pictured beneath) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of occasions in the first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian member.
